Venus Retrograde In Scorpio: The Art of Being Fierce

Venus is now retrograde (appearing to move backwards in the sky). The Goddess of Love started her retrograde movement in Scorpio  on October 8 and will continue until November 18, 2010.

During this period, we are asked to re-evaluate the worth and value of people and things in our life, which are Taurus and Libra issues (two signs ruled by Venus). This time, we also have to throw in the issues represented by Scorpio and its ruler Pluto: intimacy and sexuality, trust and power, money matters (joint finances, legacies, inheritances, wills). All subject matters we dread to have intimate conversations about.

Nobody wants to have these difficult conversations. As a matter of fact, we avoid them at all costs! But often the cost of NOT having these conversations is far greater.

I was surfing the net for more insights into this retrograde period of Venus, when I came across Jessica Shepherd’s article on Venus retrograde in Scorpio over at Sasstrology. I was struck by how she defined that particular Venus: a fierce beauty.

I fell in love with that word: fierce. It suits Venus in Scorpio. It suits the attitude needed when having of THOSE conversations.

Defining Fierce

The Merriam-Webster dictionary gives the following definition of fierce:

1 a : violently hostile or aggressive in temperament b : given to fighting or killing : pugnacious

2a : marked by unrestrained zeal or vehemence <a fierce argument> b : extremely vexatious, disappointing, or intense <fierce pain>

3: furiously active or determined <make a fierce effort>

4: wild or menacing in appearance

A rather bleak and violent definition, certainly applicable to Scorpio. In my mind, this definition is too narrow. It lacks a good rendering of Venus in Scorpio, of who is that fierce beauty?

I am interested in the attitude that the Merriam-Webster definition implies. In my mind, being fierce implies a certain aggressiveness, a strong determination to stand on principles. It requires a willingness to NOT be “nice” or “pretty”, as so often women are supposed to be.

Being “fierce” is not about being mean, but about being bold, about confronting heads on the issues in a truthful way. Not an easy thing to do.

Being fierce requires strength, determination and courage. Being fierce is a bit unnerving, while at the same time exhilarating.

All these qualities speak of a necessary “all or nothing”, no middle ground attitude while Venus is retrograde in Scorpio.  It also requires from us to be very clear on how much we value ourselves and how much others value us.

How to be a fierce beauty

Ready to be a fierce beauty, take charge and talk about the issues ruled by this Venus retrograde transit? Here are 3 steps on how to start.

Step #1: Ask yourself honestly:

  • “What are the conversations in my life that need to take place?”
  • “What conversation am I avoiding with myself?”
  • “What’s the payoff of avoiding these conversations?
  • “What am I gaining by withholding my real thoughts and feelings?”
  • What might I win if I had these conversations?”

Step #2: Learn HOW to say what needs to be said and asks for what needs to he asked. Get good at describing what really is going on, without laying blame. Be truthful.

Suggestion #3: Commit to having these conversations within a time frame.

If you follow these steps you should be on a much more productive path, free of inane conversations and mounting tensions.

You have become fierce, beautifully.

    Hi Fabienne,
What a self-empowering piece about Venus (Rx) in Scorps.
I have Venus (cj Saturn and cj Lilith) in Scorpio natally and read a lot of negative posts about it.
I am trying to muster some sort of fierceness to discuss support payments with ex and finding it heavy going within myself. I am also concerned about timing, of course, as uncertain if should wait til Venus moves forward or until out of her shadow or….

Thanks for the comment and feedback. I was really inspired by Jessica Shepperd and her definition of Venus Rx in Scorpio. I really did fall in love with the word fierce.
To answer your question I would use the time that Venus is still retrograde to prepare myself for that difficult conversation and even practice it. And have the conversation after Venus is moving again.
Thanks also for becoming a subscriber! I feel the love :)
